china_shop: Eun Chan holding Han Gyul's face, both turned towards camera - cuteness! (Kdrama - Coffee Prince)
I cried pretty much through the entirety of episode 10. Those poor sweet beautiful broken darlings!

I suspect I'm going to finish it this weekend (but not tonight; that would be excessive, and I already have a headache from all the crying).

I've fallen down the rabbit hole that is Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, and I don't want to come out!

OMG, this show is adorable. The main character is a weightlifter at a sports university, who is mostly very happy being a bull-headed hot-tempered jock, until one fateful day when plot spoilers happen )

I'm about halfway through. Events have transpired, and more spoilers )

I just. Bok Joo is giving me so many feels. She's about as lacking in EQ and self-awareness as Go Mi Nam from You're Beautiful (that is a wild overstatement; NO ONE is as clueless and un-self-aware as Go Mi Nam!), but seeing her grapple with not being traditionally feminine and the way everyone treats her like a hefferlump, and her humiliation at knowing she's being ridiculous leading her double life but she can't help it, and the moments of pure happiness she grabs whenever she can... is all hitting me pretty hard. *snuggles her heartbroken and befuddled self*

Also, the love interest is somehow awful and utterly adorable at the same time. I don't know how he's managing it, but I have high hopes that he will eventually soon realise how awful the awfulness is and make amends. He's getting there.

ION, I've rented the first disk of Black Sails, having decided to give it another try after bouncing off the pilot a couple of years(?) ago and since hearing many people squee. The warnings on the case include sexual violence; can anyone advise: how graphic is the non-con? Like, is it going to squick me and stick in my head for days? Does it happen to main/POV characters? /o\

IOON, we watched the pilot of You Me Her last night, and it was great. I'm looking forward to more.

I came home kind of late tonight.

When I went to grab the metal cat bowls I use for the kittens' wet food, I noticed that the plastic bases they nest in were a bit dirty and picked them up to wash as well.

Inner metal bowls and plastic outer holders get washed. I put down the wet food in the naked metal bowls while the plastic holders dry off in the rack for a while longer.

While the kittens are still nomming their dinners, I retreat to my bedroom and close the door.

When I come out again for more than a quick bathroom trip, the metal bowls are gone.

Now, when the bowls are not in their bases, they are lightweight and can be nudged around pretty easily. However, I have a very small one bedroom apartment.

So I check under every piece of furniture in the rooms they had access to. I check behind doors and furniture and anything else. I check between things and on top of things. I check under the throw pillows on the couch, even though that's ridiculous.

I check the trash, the recycling bag, the sink, the stovetop, and inside the fridge, just in case I wandered around on autopilot and put them somewhere without thinking about it. (I really, really didn't, but I check on the off chance that I am actually losing my mind.)

People, these bowls are GONE.

What the hell???

7/19 ETA:  Mystery solved -- hiding in plain sight!

They wound up INSIDE the identical metal bowls for their dry food (which don't move around as much since they were properly nested in their outer plastic holders).

Still no idea whether they were put there by me or the cats.

I've been so busy, and so focused on spending my free-time-to-write on original projects, that I feel like I want to talk to people on Dreamwidth but don't really have anything to write a post about.

So let's start with the essentials, which is two friends who are currently in need of a bit of help.

[personal profile] kuwdora, who makes amazing vids, is taking vid commissions to help pay for a career development opportunity.

...and it seems the other friend has reached their financial goal for the thing they needed, which I saw halfway through writing this entry, so. Please consider helping out kuwdora!

I'm busy planning London things (when I'm not busy doing other things). I've bought contact lenses for the first time in my life (putting them in and out is AWFUL but having them in is pretty wonderful). I finished watching "The Handmaid's Tale" and the "Game of Thrones" premiere and feel weirdly similarly about both.

Sunday was picking up my contacts and hunting for a birthday gift for a friend and getting stuff from the pharmacy and overall I got home from work around 8:30pm. Monday was pilates at 5pm, followed by my roommate's friends coming over at 9pm for Game of Thrones. Tuesday was going to buy new walking shoes (mine have holes in them and I need something for London), and because I needed a specialized store I yet again came home at like 9pm.

Today is going to be swimming (because my pilates class was canceled), followed by an optometrist appointment.

Basically just really, really long days. I've mostly been spending my weekends doing fuck all because of it, lol.

Anyway, I'm looking for ideas for what to do in London. So far I have the staples (places I've been and can always happily spend time in):
- british museum
- V & A

Potentially interesting but also maybe kind of boring (I have a friend who'd LOVE both of these but for me they're kind of "oh ok" sort of options):
- tour of parliament
- tour of buckingham palace

plays (I have to pick one):
- Matilda in the west end
- Much Ado About Nothing at the globe
- Queen Anne at heymarket (I do love Romola Garai)

Other than that I have: walking around various parks. LOL.

There's definitely loads more to do in London, but I feel like I've done the more obvious touristy stuff (Sherlock Holmes house, the eye, transport museum (LOL I know this is less obviously touristy, but I liked it)) and the less obvious stuff I'm not familiar with?

(I've always wanted to do the loo tour, ever since meeting the owner/tourguide at a party, but it seems every time I'm in London the times don't work out ;_;)

Anyway, suggestions for stuff to do are very welcome!

Invented by [personal profile] lunabee34: Tell me about the episode (or book chapter) that never appeared in one of your fandoms but should have.

White Collar: Neal is knocked unconscious during a case, cue Prohibition-era noir episode with singing, saxophones and threesome subtext, a la Moonlighting's "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice."

White Collar: Peter and Neal are captured and held in a confined space. Very confined. El, Mozzie and June work together to rescue them (with Diana and Clinton helping in the background).

Battle Creek: All of season 2.

Agent Carter: All of season 3.

Captain America: A Falcon movie, with the breezy tone of Ant-Man and Spider-Man. Basically, I want (more of) a Sam/Steve romcom. ;-P

I wrote a few drabble treats for the Multifandom Drabble Exchange:

1. Shining how we want - Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson, Shortest fake relationship ever.

2. Back it up and do it again - Neal Caffrey/Clinton Jones, The first time was a ruse.

3. Does it almost feel like you've been here before - time traveller/time traveller, The portal whines alarmingly.

And I've read lots of great ones (there went my morning!), but this is my favourite so far:

Pets by [archiveofourown.org profile] lirin - Neal & Satchmo, How can anybody be exasperated around a dog like this?

ION, yay new Doctor!

Yesterday I finished Dal Ja's Spring with my teacher, and Imaginary Cat, which was a solo watch.

Dal Ja's Spring was charming, slightly dated and, as is the way with noona romances, eventually managed to side-step the heavy pressure on the woman to get married. (Its ending was reminiscent of several other noona romances I've seen, actually, which makes me wonder how influential it was.) It had some lovely friendships and was kind to even the less sympathetic characters. It did drag slightly toward the end, but the main reason I won't be rewatching is technical: glitchy files and out-of-sync subtitles in some episodes, which I could work around but it's a pain.

Imaginary Cat was a short, 8-episode thing about an aspiring web cartoonist and his beloved cat (we could hear the cat's thoughts; he couldn't), which should have been charming but was mostly dull. The story beats were clunky, cartooning is not particularly interesting to watch, and spoiler ). If it hadn't been so short, I would have given up about halfway through, but my completionist tendencies drove me on.

Next up, Chief Kim (with my teacher) and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (on my own).

In offline not-really-news, today has been wonderful. After three days of unrelenting sleety-rainy gales, today there was surprise sunshine, and our favourite outdoor public pool (heated) was open this morning so the boy and I swam in the gently steaming water, and it felt like an adventure, especially after being bundled in multiple layers of merino for so long. The concrete pool surrounds were freezing under my bare toes, but once I got in it was lovely and I had a lane to myself.

Then we had brunch at Floriditas and shared a brioche. Life is good.

There was just a fire alarm at my building. It lasted fifteen minutes. About half of that I spent cornering Joey, locking him in the carrier, and hauling his butt downstairs. Now, he is offended by the entire affair and shunning me.

I can't decide whether to go to Vividcon or not. Since next year is the last, I feel like whatever fandom flame I'd hoped to nurture— Hmm. Okay, I realize this may seem weird, but I feel almost like Vividcon is now best left to the community that "built that city." I have to decide soon—I haven't bought a ticket yet.

I had my Year One Transplant Anniversary Bone Marrow Biopsy today. Ouch.

P.S. Call your senators about healthcare.

I know I've posted about this before, but now that we're closer to August and the convention, I want to mention it again.

I will be in London August 1st-8th.

August 1-2nd, I'm totally free and currently have no plans. So if you want to meet up (during the day or in the evening), let me know! I'm open to doing touristy stuff together like museums or palaces or things, or just meeting up for a quick coffee or dinner or something.

August 3rd (Thursday) - I'll have the day free, and in the evening I plan to be at Nine Worlds (there's various social hang outs?). But these plans are flexible!

August 4-5th (Friday-Saturday) - I plan to be at Nine Worlds pretty much all day. If you're going to be at Nine Worlds as well:

On Friday I'm going to do a talk about Women, War and SFF at 5pm.

On Saturday I'm on two panels:

* Non-anglophone fanworks, fans and canon, at 10am.

* Screenwriting & scripting the fantastical, at 3:15pm. (Please note this panel will also be attended by Mike Carey who created Lucifer, wrote Hellblazer for several years and wrote the book and script of The Girl With All The Gifts. Not that I'm a bit *__________* about being on a panel with him or anything!!)

So, if you're going to be at the con, talk to me! I've never been to this kind of con before, where a lot of people are living on the premises, but in theory I'm also cool with hanging out with non-con-going friends in the evening. Talk to me and we can figure something out?

August 5th (Sunday) - I'll be at Nine Worlds until the afternoon, probably? And then am free to meet up. (If no other plans materialize I'm planning to stay at the con and do the Sunday night stuff.)

August 7-8th (Monday-Tuesday) - I'm free again! These days might (or might not?) be a bit busier since a fandom(?) friend from Nigeria who'll also be at Nine Worlds will have these days free, so hopefully we can do things together? But I'll also have lots of free time I assume/lots of time to meet up with other people.

I feel weird because every time I've come to London I've felt beforehand like "omg I have like 1 friend in London, and they have a job, so like I'll just be alone the whole time and not do anything basically" and then somehow I'm IN London and suddenly there's too many people to see and too little time.

Anyway, whether we've met before or don't know each other at all, if you're fannish/are reading this post I'd love to try and meet up! One of my favorite people is actually someone I met in London during a 12 hour layover like 6 years ago, we'd never spoken online, and she just popped up on one entry like "so hey you'll be in London? Let's meet up!"

I've since traveled to visit her in Delhi, we've spent a week in Prague together. I LIKE HER A LOT. So you know. I'm up for meeting people!
